Kosice English International School (KEIS) has opened its gates in academic year 2020/2021 due to growing demand from the locals as international families relocating to Kosice. They do follow IB (International Baccalaureate) curricula, which means more flexibility for students in case of shifting to new city but also unique teaching experience. Our team has visited the school on the 9th of February 2026 and asked many questions about admission process, transfer policy, tuition fees or teaching system. Here is what we found out about this school.
Basic numbers about the school
The school has been founded by Mr. Blaas and Mrs. Blaasova, as new project within their network of private schools in Slovakia. As they mentioned, this was their first school with English as the main language. Currently, there are over 100 students at three levels at KEIS school - they attend kindergarten, primary and secondary level fully in English. They see growing trend of foreigners and their families to relocate to Kosice due to requirements of local employers for qualified workforce. The school employs approximately 30 teachers from all over the world: including New Zealand, Turkey, Ireland or Spain.
There are 3 levels of education at KEIS school:
- The IB Primary years - for children aged 3 to 12. The school puts special ephasis on 6 subjects: language, social studies, mathemathics, arts, science and personal, social and physical education
- The IB Middle Years programme - is designed for children from 11 to 16. The program is aimed to help students develop their personal understanding, emerging acknowledgement of self and responsiblity in their community.
- The IB Diploma programme - is designed for children from 16 to 19. This level helps students to prepare for success at university and in life beyond. It addresses intellectual, social, emotional and physical well-being of students.
Teachers at KEIS
The school keeps high standard for their teachers. They look specifically for teachers with previous IB teaching experience and let them profesionally grow. While other English schools in Slovakia might simply hire teachers with good knowledge of English, KEIS is specific about good fit of new teacher into their school. Currently, they have approximately 30 teachers.
Transfers to KEIS
If your child needs to enroll into the higher year at KEIS, it is very much possible. Transfers are allowed also during the academic year. It is necessary to mention that transferring to KEIS is a rigorous process that requires more than just proof of previous enrollment, even for students coming from other IB schools abroad.
Admissions officers must carefully examine previous syllabuses to ensure the specific topics studied align with the KEIS curriculum, as IB frameworks allow for significant flexibility between schools. Detailed report cards and past marks are reviewed alongside these documents to analyze academic trends and "Approaches to Learning" rather than just final grades.
Regardless of background, applicants often need to complete an English entrance test to verify if they possess the academic language skills necessary for complex coursework in this specific environment. This testing is crucial because there is substantial differentiation among international schools; a student's level at an IB school or other school abroad may not match the academic rigor or specific standards at KEIS. The school uses these assessments to confirm that the student’s actual knowledge base matches their paperwork, preventing placement in a class where they might struggle. In addition to these academic metrics, the student's chronological age is a primary criterion used as the strict baseline for determining the appropriate grade level.
Tuition fees at KEIS
Families enrolling at KEIS must pay a one-time, non-refundable registration fee of 520 € per educational stage upon enrollment. Monthly tuition fees vary significantly by age group, starting at 500 € to 600 € for Early Years students in Kindergarten. For Primary and Middle School (Years 1–9), standard monthly fees range from 1 450 € to 1 550 €, though scholarships can reduce this to between 700 € and 900 €. Secondary School students (Years 10–13) face standard fees up to 1 850 €, but a special guaranteed rate of 650 € is available for eligible families enrolling in Years 10, 11 and 12.
These tuition payments generally cover essential items such as teaching materials, personal IT equipment, consumable workbooks, and English language support for younger students. However, parents should budget for additional costs including meals, after-school care at 80 € per month, and specific IB Diploma exam fees and textbooks in the final years.
To access the lowest "Scholarship 1" rates, families generally need Slovak citizenship, must sign a two-year contract, and agree to the school's marketing conditions. Finally, fees can be paid either annually to receive a 4% discount or split into four termly installments due throughout the academic year.
